Eudora User Migrating

Hi All,

I'm new to Entourage and have some basic questions. I've used Eudora
since the mid 1990s.

1. I back up and save all my email WITH its attachments. In Eudora,
I'd just pull it all off the imap server and into a mailbox on my
computer. It would automatically download attachments, put them in an
attachments folder, and create a link to the attachment in the archived
message. Is there a way to do this in Entourage?

I understand that you can back up a mailbox, but what about the
attachments?

2. When you open an attachment in Entourage but don't "save" it, were
does it go on your computer?

Any other tips from former Eudora users would be much appreciated.

I'm using Entourage to access an exchange server.

Hi,

just to clarify things: I've never used Eudora, so I can only give you
advice on Entourage itself. I don't know how Eudora handles attachments, so
if anyone wants to correct me or add comments to my reply, feel free to do
so.

1. Entourage stores attachments inside the actual email message; if you drag
an email from Entourage to your desktop, it will be saved as an individual
..eml file, which includes the text and the attachments. That's a great
method for backing up individual messages; for entire folders, drag a folder
from the folder list on the left-hand side to the desktop, and it will be
saved as a standard .mbox file. And this .mbox will contain individual files
for each message, which, as I've already said, contain the attachments.

2. Entourage stores everything in its database, which can be found in
~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office (v.x or 2004, depending on the
version you're using) Identities/<your identity>/.

Specifically, I think that attachments you view but do not save go to
~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Entourage Temp/ or ~/Documents/Microsoft
User Data/Saved Attachments/.
