Can you help please. My problem is thus. We use MS 2002. Our tasks are
subcontracted and are entered as fixed cost over duration. Currently set to
fixed work and updated as % complete. Incomplete workis progressed. When
EV is applied some tasks have a variance between the total cost and the EAC
(we do not want the EAC to change as the cost to fixed). Is there anything I
can do to change the EAC to match the total costs or I am doing something
fundamentally wrong.

Enter the fixed cost in the fixed cost column. Set it to accrue as prorated.
You will need to do one more thing..

Remember your existing %Complete which could be copied to a spare text column.
Change %Complete to 0% for the tasks in question.
Delete resources
Add Fixed Costs.
Rebaseline these tasks
Re-establish your %Complete
