Hello Dave,
From your post, my understanding on this issue is: you want to know how to
capture the event when users click on "Save" in SaveAs dialog of Word. If
I'm off base, please feel free to let me know.
The Word event BeforeSave occurs before user has entered the path to save
the document by design. In order to capture the event of Save in "SaveAs"
dialog, I think we need to get the object of the dialog.
Tough "Word.Dialog dialog =
this.Application.Dialogs[Word.WdWordDialog.wdDialogFileSave];" returns the
dialog object, Word.Dialog provides no support for the "Save" event. A
possible workaround is to use SaveFileDialog object:
1. In DoucmentBeforeSave event handler, we check if it needs to show the
SaveAs dialog. If not, we could run "our event logic" directly.
2. If it needs to show the SaveAs dialog, we turn it false/invisible, and
create an instance of SaveFileDialog. Add the FileOk event to the
SaveFileDialog and call dialog.Show();
3. In the FileOK event handler, we add "our event logic" and in the end, we
pass the file path/name to ThisDocument.SaveAs function to simulate the
Save operation.
If you have any other concerns, or need anything else, please feel free to
let me know.
Sincerely,
Jialiang Ge (

where an initial response from the community or a Microsoft Support
Engineer within 1 business day is acceptable. Please note that each follow
up response may take approximately 2 business days as the support

most efficient resolution. The offering is not appropriate for situations
that require urgent, real-time or phone-based interactions or complex
project analysis and dump analysis issues. Issues of this nature are best
