event log error 1015 with office 2002 patch install

hello,

After I downloaded patches from ms office web site, I disconnect internet
and install it, I find several error messages logged within the event log :

type : warning
source MsiInstaller
event id : 1015
description : Failed to connect to server. Error: 0x800401F0

WHY does microsoft want to connect to internet when applying patches
since I have a valide office license (cd's + serial number) ?
