Every Excel startup causes installation of unknow feature

Every time I startup Excel - without fail - it pops up a
dialog that says "Installing components for Microsoft
Excel" in the title bar and in the the dialog box body it
says "Installing: Microsoft Excel feature" and there is a
progress bar until it finishes. Since one of my on-site
developed applications uses Excel features, this is very
frustrating. Our IT guys have no idea what is happening.
Any ideas?
