Everytime that I try to install updates they fail to install, why

When I get automatic updates, I go to express install. The updates are
security updates for Word 2003 (KB917334) and PowerPoint 2003 (KB916518),
also the update for Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB917149). These seem to
fail installation everytime, I don't get any error messages. When I try to
see why they failed my system seems to lockup. Can anyone help me?
