EVMS

I am looking for an Earned Value class and am seeking advice on providers. I
would prefer classroom setting in the mid south or south east United States.
Also during my searches I have discovered that there is an Earned Value
Management Institute and that there is a certification. Is this
certification acknowledged in the industry?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

I have been doing EVMS since 1982, mostly on governement contracts in
aerospace and defense in the United States.

Most EVM is based on the training provided by corporate trainers, other
employees, or recognized colleges and universities.

As for an industry accepted "credential" in EVMS, no. It is my *personal
opinion* that many companies offering training on EVMS use a marketing slant
of "certification." That does not make them bad or inferior, it is just
their take on the matter.

All in all, anyone who offers a good quality training course is going to get
you what you need. It all rolls up to ANSI-748 (In the USA anyway). And
there are some other US Gov publications concerning the matter... Agencies
within the US Gov certify EVMS of government contractors ... but not the
indivuduals who are doing the work and reporting.

The industry accepted credential in Program Managment is the PMP from
www.pmi.org. Within that certification, you will certainly be jumping in to
EVMS. There is also an American Management Association credential as well.

Jim,

Thanks for your prompt response. I have taken a course at the local
institution, however, it was not very detailed. Only delivered basic
principals. I work for a small company that is a government contractor with
defense and aeorspace contracts. I was hoping to find something detailed for
a PM and Contracts Admin to attend. We are increasingly finding EVMS
requirements in our RFPs.

Although we are not supposed to directly solicit business here... I wonder
what might happen if you clicked this link: www.celeris-systems.com ...

"They" (pronounced "we") do EVMS for all kinds of projects and would
probably be happy to help your organization. "They" have been known to
travel...
