EWS not installing on 12.2.1

I tried getting the newly-released EWS code running but am getting shut down
in the installer. The installer indicates "You cannot install Entourage
2008, Web Services Edition Update on this volume. A version of the software
required to install this update was not found on this volume." However, my
MS Office is currently at SP2, and Entourage shows specifically version
12.2.0 (090605) with Latest Installed Update 12.2.1. I've run Applejack to
verify permissions as well as clean and check prefs and caches. Still no
luck. This is a fairly recent install of Office 2008. I had reinstalled a
couple months back after the EWS beta stopped Entourage from working
altogether and no solutions were at hand.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated! Thanks.

Uh, yeah. I forgot.
I'm running OS 10.5.8, on Intel.

I am having the same problem. I have a 12.2.1 updated regular install of Office 2008, and I keep getting the "cannot install" message for EWS. Likewise running 10.5.8.

Did you remove your current install of Office as directed?

Did you restart between updates?

Steps to re-install Office

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/install/reinstall_steps.html>

Once you have Office installed and updated to 12.2.1 you can download the
EWS final version and install.

Entourage 2008, Web Services Edition has launched (The Entourage Help Blog)
<http://blog.entourage.mvps.org/2009/08/entourage_web_services.html>

Why restarting is important:

<quote>
the Apple Installer (which we use for our updates) creates a temp folder to
do the update. We are finding that some times (very small percent, and we
have not narrowed down the cause) the temp folder does not get deleted after
the update is done.

When we go to start another update, if that temp folder is still it is
locked and we cannot write to that space. Thus we fail. Restarting causes
that temp folder to be deleted. Thus, when the updater launches it does not
find the pre-existing folder and then can write a new one.</quote>

Third time was apparently the charm. I Removed Office once more, and ran through all the steps, making sure t restart between each update. EWS finally "took."

Did you remove your current install of Office as directed?

So you're saying remove Office again and reinstall before installing EWS?
Because this was a fairly recent reinstall of Office.
Did you restart between updates?

Yes. I went into single-user mode and ran Applejack to check permissions,
disks, clear caches, corrupted prefs, etc. So there was definitely a reboot
or two.

But it seems to me we're not even getting to the point with the installer
where it should be creating temp files. This error is at the "pick a volume
to install EWS on" screen. It looks through your available volumes and then
either gives you the green arrow or red exclamation point.

So you're saying remove Office again and reinstall before installing EWS?
Because this was a fairly recent reinstall of Office.

That's what the directions indicate. They didn't say if you recently updated
you can ignore this, they said to completely remove Office then reinstall
from the DVD fully update to 12.2.1 THEN you can apply the EWS installer.

I am trying to apply this update to a Snow Leopard install and it simply will not work. Any thoughts?
