Exceeding the number of installations???

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel So apparently I found out that I'm going over the use of my license, which isn't true. I notice I get this message online when I'm on the main home network. But when I switch up to the guest network it does not appear. Is there a way for me to get this settled so it does not pop up on the main network?

It's not a big issue just switching networks, but I would enjoy not having to do that since I got my stereo wireless hooked up on the main network.

appreciate the assistance!

Not being accusatory, but that message is rarely in error. Since you haven't
provided complete details about your installations I can only offer some
general information. Each license (Product Key) entitles installation on 2
systems but no Office app can be used on one of them if any Office app
installed with the same key is running on the other. IOW, you can only use
Office on one of those systems at a time if they're on the same network.

The Home & Student Edition includes 3 Product Keys but in order to avoid the
conflict each the 3 system installations on the network must be done with a
different Key. The most common mistake with Home/Student is that the user
does multiple installs using the same Key without realizing it.

I'm having the same issue. I hate this Microsoft default piracy accusation.

I own 2 licenses and 3 computers for 2 people in my household and have this issue continuously. I'll have word open on my desktop, go to my laptop and use word and get the error (note using only one license as I'm not really using both at the same time). The worst part is it doesn't allow for change in the product key for different users. Thus, my wife logs on my desktop and I use my laptop - still kicked off despite my 2 licenses. Guess I need to have 3 for 2 people???

Frustrating that honest users are burnt by this. I'll bet there's a patch/hack for those really stealing software out there.

You guys have been modestly helpful with a link on changing my product keys, but I always wish Microsoft would provide telephone support like Apple.

But I'm off topic. This is from an honest transposition of product keys and you have a couple licenses follow these links they gave me before

One more thing. I still have been getting kicked out when my wife opens word on her laptop and I'm using my desktop - that shouldn't be. Is there a means to check your product key so I can trouble shoot this problem.

Microsoft DOES provide telephone support, and JUST like Apple, they charge
for it :)

Yes, you need a different licence key for each machine on which you want to
run any part of Office concurrently. You can use the same key on as many
machines as you like, provided that no Microsoft Office application is in
use on more than one of them at a time (the key is for the whole of Office,
not the individual applications).

If you look in the Application menu of any Office application for the About
item and display that, it will display the Office Product ID to you.

If you find two machines on which all but the last five digits match, the
same key was used on those two machines.

It won't tell you "which" key was used, just that the "same" key was used.

If you want to change the installed details, you have to delete two sets of
files. Make SURE you have your CD Product Key available to re-enter before
you do this, because without it none of the applications will run after you
do this.

~:Library:preferences:Microsoft:Office 2008:Microsoft Office 2008
Settings.plist

-and-

HD:Applications:Microsoft Office 2008:Office:OfficePID.plist

Notes:

1) All Office applications must be quit at the time. If any are running,
this won't work.

2) You may need to set your finder Preferences to show hidden files to see
the second one.

Once both files are gone, the next time you start any Office application, it
will prompt you for the CD Key. If the key is valid, you will get the
chance to re-enter the installation details.

Hope this helps
