Excel 2000 and DFS

I have set up a domain root DFS share on my system
But when I access excel file I get the error can not locate path
It only happens with excel 2000 (excel 2003 is ok

The files are viewable. Word documents are also O

Excel 2000 will open the files using the “server†share
