Is anyone running Excel 2000 with Windows Vista. Are there any
incompatibilities?

TIA

That's good to know. Thanks. Do you have any comments as regards Word
2000?

TIA

I will say this about *OFFICE* 2000 and Vista - there have been reports of
late that there are problems with Outlook 2000 and Outlook 2002(XP) running
under Vista. Nothing regarding any problems with Excel or Word that I've
heard at all.

Specifically the reports I've heard are that Vista just flat does not see
Outlook 2000, and there are some issues with passwords stored in Outlook XP.
Sorry, nothing more specific than that.

The problems with Outlook 2000 in one report I saw refer to not being
able to use the Address Book. I am not greatly concerned with Outlook
given that I found that after a brief look that Outlook Express worked
better for me, Excel and Word are two components of Office which I
use a lot for work related tasks.

Thanks for your interest.

I've not tried Office 2K under Vista, so can't offer any direct advice. You
might try uninstalling and reinstalling once and see if you have the same
problem.

One MVP who reported on the Outlook issues made a recommendation to run
Office 2000 and/or Office XP in virtual machines under Windows XP using
Virtual PC rather than installing them directly on the Vista system. Virtual
PC 2004 is now a free product from Microsoft:

Thanks for responding.

I was trying to establish whether there was any general problem
running Word. It would seem there is not from the replies received.

What error message are you getting? Post details to:
microsoft.public.windows.vista.general

Gerry,
I see that you are trying to assist bobm with a problem. He might look into
trying to use program compatibility settings to get Word 2000 working
properly in Vista. Although I think generally people are not having trouble
with that combination - but it is still early in the game and there may not
be a lot trying it. It is noted that "programs written for Windows XP ...
run under Vista.." but Office 2000 is technically a pre Windows XP set of
tools.
Easy to find out about the settings and get help is to use the Vista Help
and Support feature and enter Program Compatibility Settings as the help
topic to search for. Several good links, including one to the 'Compatibility
Wizard' are presented.

Good luck to you both with the problem and finding the solution.

Hi bobm,

You may need to install the numerous Office updates as well for everything to run smoothly.

I am just sounding out to discover what problems there might be if I
dual boot Windows XP and Windows Vista.

Thanks for the tip. I will try to remember it later if I have a
problem. I guess there will be quite a lot to learn, just as there was
moving from Windows 98 to Windows XP.

I am running Vista & office 2000. Having a problem with Excel and
color fonts. It will not let me save a spreadsheet if I insert color
fonts. I have been using this spread sheet for 4 years on XP with no
problems. It let me transfer files in to Vsta with color fonts but
will not let me SAVE the file if I add or change fonts with color. The
only color it will let me save is a black font. Have had a new
computer with Vista for 2 days. DO NOT USE THE RETROFIT PROGRAM
OPTION. It does not work and locks all your files in excell or any
other programs you chose. That was a mess and had to RESTORE my
computer to fix. Have not heard of this problem with anyone else.
