Excel 2000 Crashes loading excel Xp or 2003 files

My daughter has a worksheet constructed at school using a
slightly later version of excel, when we try to open the
file in excel 2000 it causes an error

Excel has caused an error in Excel.exe.

However it opens fine in excel xp (2002?) on another
machine. Re-saving it does not clear the problem, does
anyone know the way to clear the problem other than buy a
copy of Office xp or later?

Problem solved, using excel from office XP the spread
sheet was saved as HTML, then opened in Excel 2000, now
works fine. Hope this may help others.
