Excel 2000 export to Tab deliminated text file - how to control tabs at end of line

I use the office 2000 pro version of Excel to create tab deliminated tables of
numbers for input into another program. The program appears to be very sensitive
to the number of tabs it finds on a line, and I find the format of output is variable.
When output as a tab deliminated file as expected tabs are placed between cells,
but at the end of the line some lines have an tab at the end, some do not. I am
trying to remove one tab that my program finds offensive, and no amount of deleting
cells, copying and pasteting lines that have the right format or anything else seems
to keep excel from putting a tab there.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

What is the content of the "offending" line ?
Does it have anything particular in it ?
Like a quotemark, a semicolon , a comma that your other program might also
be using as a separator ?
