Excel 2000 freezes in file open dialog.

Old Excel 2000 9.0.6926 SP-3 occasionally freezes in the file open dialog.
Running Win2000 with current service packs and patches. Checked all updates
available to Office. Can't afford to update at this time. Any ideas?
