excel 2000 on Xp with 2000 server

I’m experiencing problems with our XP clients
Excel documents aren’t closing down on the server
Users are modifying excel documents but when they try to
save – file gets saved as a temporary file.
When checked from the server its saying the file is open –
even though the specified user doesn’t have excel open

Runing Server2000 SP3
Win XP client SP1

Don't experiance problem with Win 2000 clients
