Excel 2000 - program crashes when saving to floppy?

Lately when I try to save a file to my 3 1/2" floppy disk, the program
freezes up. It's not the floppy disk, because I've tried several disks. And
it's not the drive because other programs let me save to a floppy disk no
problem. I've tried reinstalling Office 2000, and installed all the updates
off Microsoft.com. It worked for about a day, then started freezing again.
My virus protection is up to date.

I can't tell you for sure what the problem is based on this information
alone. My guess is that you are saving a file that's too large. You must
have at least twice as much available space on a floppy disk as the size of
the workbook you're trying to save in order to save directly to a floppy
from Excel.

At any rate, it's always a bad idea to open or save a workbook directly
to/from a floppy disk with Excel. There are all sorts of things that can go
wrong and cause you to permanently loose your workbook. Open and Save using
the local hard disk on your computer and then copy back and forth from a
floppy disk using Windows Explorer.

No, there is plenty of room on the floppy disk. I've used Excel for 12 years
and never had this happen before, usually the problem is a bad floppy disk or
a bad floppy drive, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

Another common reason I've heard for this happening is anti-virus
software. You might try disabling it and see if that makes things work
again. If so then you'll need to figure out what about that changed that
caused this to start happening.
