excel 2002-2000 external link problems

I have a spreadsheet with external links to other spreadsheets. When viewed on a computer with Excell 2000, the spreadsheet asks to update the links. The links are not available, so I select No, then the values on the Cells are shown

When viewed on Excel 2002, the spreadsheet asks to update the links also. When I select no, i get #VALUE! errors instead of the actual data

Is there any way to change the behavior of Excel 2002 to emulate the behavior of Excel 2000?
