Excel 2003 and Word 2003

Steve

I noticed for the first time last night (on both PC's in
my house with Office 2003 for students and teacher
installed) that it takes over a minute to open these two
applications every time I try. I did not have this problem
for the first week or so after it was installed I tried
disabling Norton Anti Virus and that did not fix the
problem. Even "ghosted" an image I created last week back
onto my c: drive and that did not fix the problem. Also
disabled Zone Alarm and that did not help. When I
disconnected the cable modem from the system these apps
open almost instantly !

It would appear these these apps are trying to access
something for somewhere ? Powerpoint 2003 and Outlook
2003 do not have this problem

Anybody know what is causing this on BOTH of my PC's which
have exactly the same setup (XP Pro, Norton, Zone Alarm
and Office 2003, and both connected to Comcast Broadband ?

Thanks Steve

Diasbling the Office Plugin corrected the problem (at
least until Symantec can figure things out !)

from Symantec suggests turning off certificates in IE.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en- us;q320365
describes how to disable the Office plug-in (which you should do anyway,
as far as I'm concerned). It's a PPT kb article, but the instructions
for disabling the plug-in are good.
