Excel 2003- can't input when switching worksheets within workbook.

Strange new problem. When in excel 2003 the program locks up and refuses any
more input when I switch to anything other than the default worksheet in the
workbook. The cursor has what look slike a piece of paper over top and then
I have to CTL ALT Delete to close excel. Please help.
