Excel 2003 having problems referencing other files

I have just installed Office 2003. 2 Excel files created in Office 2000, A
and B: A has macro references to B. I can close A, but cannot close B, (Error
Message about the file being referenced by another file). When I close Excel,
to het rid of B, Error Message, that all Excel shut down; followed by
automatic startup of Excel, with my file B (now apparently repaired - but all
macros erased!!!). Refuse to save this "repaired" version, but original
version will not even install without causing Excel to shut down. Any ideas,
please.
