Excel 2003-How to use it

Although I am not new to computers, MS Office, or Excel, I do not
really know how to use Excel. Besides books, does anyone know of a
website that tells you how to do something you want to do in Excel?
For example, I want to get Excel to divide data in one column by the
data (number) in another column on the same row. I have figure out
how to do it manually (=B2/C2), but how do I set Excel up to do that
on its own for each row? The values of B and C vary.

I was just hoping there was a site to find out such stuff without
bothering all of you with stupid questions. Besides I know how
insulting some posters can be.

Thanks,
ATL

Books are a good way to go. Peruse the bookstores (or the local
library) for something that you think you'd enjoy reading and
experimenting with. The so-called "Dummy" books are excellent first
books to read and learn from. Well written/edited and hits the basics.

There may be web sites, but I don't know any. Use Google to find them
if you must.

To help you:

First, Excel won't do anything on it's own. You have to tell (program)
it to do something for you.

Here's how I would do the task you describe.

1. insert the data in two columns (say B and C, starting at row 2
2. in C2, enter the formula =B2/C2
3. grab the bottom right corner of cell C2 (the square symbol) with
the mouse, then drag (by pressing right mouse key) downward to the
bottom row holding data. Excel will clone the computation in each
row, adjusting the cell references accordingly.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Rob,
Thanks for the help. That worked great. That's one more thing I now
know how to do in Excel.

The most cost effective way to learn how to use an Office app is to start
with a book.
It is just not cost effective to spend time perusing the internet when first
learning.
