Excel 2003-Style Merge dropdown box is empty-styles are preset

I am trying to merge Styles that I have preset in a workbook. When I select
Format, Styles, Merge, the Merge Styles window opens however, there are no
choices showing. There are plenty of Styles that exist, but they are not
showing to choose. I have upgrades and downloaded latest application options.
