Excel 2003 Virus Detection

Just installed Office 2003 Student & Teachers Edition.
Excel opens but a error message pops up with the message
something like - Your Virus Software has stopped this
worksheet from opening. I get the message three times.
Then it stops. I can't open any of my Excel XP files,
but can make and save new 2003 files. I tried disabling
my virus software (McAfee) to no avail. Any suggestions?
