Is it just the one file, or is it any Excel file? If it's the one
file,it might be corrupt...if it's any Excel file, try the usual steps:

1) Try creating a new user, open it there
2) Trash ~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.excel.plist

Post back to the group, let us know more information.

HTH.

Hi, not sure but think we are talking about PC excel?
As stated bellow is it only one or multiple files which behave like
this? Which operating system do you use?
Supposing you use PC excel:
If this is problem of multiple files you might try as well to renew
association - to to that right click on any of these files and choose
properties then at OPEN WITH hit the button change - select MS EXCEL and
make sure that you check the ALWAY USE THE SELECTED PROGRAM... option.
Click OK.
Another option is to try DETECT and REPAIR function in HELP menu. MAke
sure you have backuped all your setting such as personal.xls, xlsural.xls...

If this doesn't help let us know more
