Excel 2004 and Recent Documents?

I¹ve noticed Excel 2004 keep a history of recent documents in the File menu,
as Word does. Is it supposed to? If so, where should I look to correct it?

Excel/Preferences/General, check the Recently used file list checkbox,
and adjust the number of entries, if desired.

I just went to check, and it was set to 4. I changed it to 6. We¹ll see what
happens when I restart...

Note that the MRU list only records files opened using XL. If you open
the file in the Finder (e.g., double click on it), the MRU won't record
it (but the Recent Files system menu will).

Also, if you open documents using the Project Gallery the Recent tab will
keep 300 (well, a lot - I don't remember the exact number) recently used
files.
