excel 2004 can't open a file that is already open on SMB share

We work with OS X 3.4 and connect with the standard AD connector from
apple, the problem is with office 2004.

When I try to open a file on a smb share which is already open by on
an other os x user I get a message that I cannot open the file.. When
I open the file first with a windows or with a afp share the file
opens as a read only.

This problem only occurs with office files.

Any body any idea.

Hi,

You are correct - that is the behavior.

There is an option within Excel under Tools>Share Workbook. If you turn
this option on, then you will be able to use the workbook simultaneously
with Windows users on the shared drive. Read the help topic about
sharing workbooks for more details, because some features in Excel are
not available when sharing workbooks.

Hi Jim:
Can you help me in this..
I have an excel file shared from my disk. I have done this by choosing the
Tools-Sharing menu option.
But when this file is accessed from a remote machine, it is marked as Read
Only. It is not supposed to behave like this.
I am using office 2000. What am i missing????

Thanks
-Bala
