Excel 2004 crashes when I try to change default cell fill color

If I click the little down-arrow to the right of the paint bucket icon (cell
fill color button), Excel immediately crashes and offers to send the
diagnostics file to Microsoft (which I have done many times). That file says
that thread 0 crashed. This used to work, but I haven't had to do it since
the 10.4.10 update. Maybe a coincidence, but that's probably all that has
changed since it used to work.

Likelier that some preferences file is corrupt, but can anyone point me to
the right file to delete? I'd like to avoid having to set everything up
again, so I'd rather not blindly start deleting preferences files in
~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft. Has anyone else seen this?

Thanks!

The bad file was ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Excel Toolbars (11),
alas. After I trashed that and restarted Excel all was well (except
custom toolbars, of course). When I retrieved that file from the
trash and replaced the new default one with the old one and restarted
Excel, the old behavior (crash) returned.

I have this issue too. Most annoying. Instead of using the Formatting
Palette to select the color try the contextual menu option or right
click if you have a 2 button mouse to format the cell and choose color
there. This does not crash my workbook/sheet where the FP does.

I would think that deleting the Toolbars (11) preference file would be
more productive...
