Excel 2004 no longer opens after 11.5.0, 11.5.1 upgrade

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I have been using office 2004 for years now with no problems. Then, I did the 11.5.0 upgrade and Excel will no longer boot up. After weeks of trying, I was finally able to get to the 11.5.1 page and downloaded that was well. Still no luck; I still I cannot get Excel to boot.

I have 4 years worth of files I can only access through Numbers, which is a joke in terms of the functionality compared to Excel.

Any ideas?

Where do you stand with your OS X updates?

Did you repair disk permissions after the Office update?

Are there any problems with other Office programs?

I am having the same problem,...Excel will not launch, and I have to force quit, and YES, it is affecting Word and PowerPoint as well, I downloaded the 11.5.2 update and then the application opened for me just once! I need to log project hours in Excel and since the problem began my manager is getting more upset by this, and I have 4 weeks worth of pages to enter, PLEASE HELP ADDRESS this PROBLEM ASAP!!!

Have you tried quitting all Office applications and trashing Office
preferences, and then relaunching? The preferences can be found at
~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/. Also -- is there any chance you've moved
the Office applications from their original location in the "Microsoft
Office 2004" folder? Also, what happens if you create a new user account and
then log into that account, do the apps still fail to launch?
