Excel 2004 not opening older file version

Hi all

I have some shared workbooks created in a previous version of excel.
When trying to open in E2004, the open progress bar comes up, but the
file doesnt open. There is no error message - nothing happens.

I can force these topen in E vX withou any problems.

I have tried unsharing these, copying to a local volume, saving as,
with no luck

Any help appreciated

Try opening the file while holding the Shift key. If it opens, there
must be some sort of macro or add-in that is attempting to be
run/loaded on launch of the file which needs to be modified or removed
in order to use the file in 2004. I'm not an authority on the subject,
but I seem to remember seeing some earlier posts indicating a
difference between X & '04 in that regard...perhaps with regard to
support file locations. It sounds like the file is attempting to find
something it can't locate.

thanks for the thought, but unfortuantely no luck.

i can make a copy of each sheet to a new workbook, and then that seems
to open ok in v2004.

there is no change with the latest patch for office (and excel)
