Excel 2004 Opens Files from PC with "Data Loss" Error

Hi there. I just installed Excel 2004 on my Mac running 10.3.7 and
every time I open a spreadsheet from a PC version of Excel that has
some sort of formula in it, Excel claims that there might be possible
data loss. When I check out the spreadsheet, there doesn't seem to be
any data loss at all. Also, if I resave the document and reopen it,
the problem goes away. It seems to happen most with spreadsheets that
have formulas that reference empty cells.

Is anybody aware of a fix for this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Excel 2004 treats formulas that refer to empty cells as a bit suspicious and
therefore flags them for your attention. The new widget thingy will also
give special attention to empty cells used in formulas.

It's just an alert to let you know that Excel was expecting something to be
in those cells. As you noticed, the workshop will open and work normally.

If you want to disable this feature, go to Excel's preferences. Click the
Error Checking tab and uncheck "Formulas referring to empty cells."

Thanks for the reply. That works for some of my spreadsheets, but not
all of them. The exact error message is: "File Error: Data may have
been lost."

Am I barking up the right tree here?
