Excel 2004 & .XLT Files

I transferred some of my organization¹s Excel templates from PC to my Mac,
but in the Finder they don¹t show up as ³Microsoft Excel Templates², like
the built-in ones do. I downloaded a template from the Mactopia site, which
also has the .XLT extension, and the Finder still doesn¹t know what kind of
document it is.

I changed the application from <None> to Excel, and they open up in Excel OK
(so far), but what could be causing this?

Hi,

You can tell MacOS to always use Excel for .xlt files by single-clicking
(not double-clicking - don't open the file) on the file icon. Then use
Apple+I or File>Get Info and the go to the Open With section. Choose
Excel to open the file and click the Always Open with this Application
option.

If you put your XLT files into the MyTemplates folder in the Office
directory then they will show up in the My Templates tab of the Project
Gallery.

Hi Jim,

I went ahead and did this when I encountered the problem. I guess I was
puzzled as to why OS X either stopped recognizing XLT files, or if it was
supposed to recognize them and somehow ³forgot², or what. Any suggestions?
