Excel 2007 and External Connections

I have a spreadsheet that uses a MS Query to a Sybase database via ODBC. When
I open the spreadsheet, the Get External Data buttons are grayed out. I went
into options and found the trust center. I set it to trust anything on my
network and to enable data connections. The buttons are still gray. Then I
added the disk location for the database to trusted locations even though I
didn't think that would work. I was right; it didn't. I finally got to MS
Query via the connection properties but that is the long way around. Does
anyone know of a way to get External connections via ODBC to be active?
