Excel 2007 Chart Object Distorts in Publisher when editing

After inserting a chart into publisher using the insert > object > microsoft
excel chart the chart looks fine originally. When you double click the chart
to edit it it completely disorts creating a huge amount of white space and
compressing the chart. While in the edit mode you can select a predefined
template design to adjust the chart back but when you exit the chart it never
looks the same. Lines are fatter, trendlines shows pixels, etc. Anyone know
a solution as these charts need to edited on a monthly basis.

When inserting the object through this command set, no stand alone excel
files is saved. It may exist somewhere in the background but no idea where.
The chart isn't inserted as an object from a file but as a new object.

I have found that changing the way it is inserted, by inserting from a file
and essentially creating a stand alone excel file first appears to solve the
issue but the functionality that should be there inserting the object isn't.
