Excel 2007 crash and recovery

When I initially open Excel 2007 or create a new workbook based on the blank
workbook template i get the following message: "Microsoft Office Excel
cannot open or save any more documents because there is not enough available
memory or disk space."

Excel then shuts down after asking me if it can recover my work. If I say
yes, the blank workbook is recovered and everything works fine.

I do not get this behavior if I create a new workbook using other templates.

I suspect my blank workbook template is corrupt. How can I solve this?

Try moving everything in your xlStart folder. (This mat be a hidden folder),
re-start Excel and see if that fixes it

I am afraid that didn't work. There must be somewhere else that Excel is
getting this start template from. I had some problems also when unistalling
the beta2 and has to use Windows Install Cleanup program which worked.

I did not have this problem with the last Excel 2007 beta.

I suspect it has something to do with that, but can't find anything in KB.

Can you see if your temp folder is empty? Do you have any add-ins loaded
under Office Button>Excel options>add-ins, try unloading all of these

Thanks for sticking with this Nick.

There were add-in and the temp had files in it. I deleted the file in the
temp directory and removed all add-ins. Same problem.

Did a repair... same problem.

Checked Work for irregularities. Got the following message:
"Word could not creat the work file. Check the temp environmental variable."

This variable was set to the temp directory for the specific user id I log
into. I changed that to default to c:\temp. Problem with Excel and Word
stayed the same.

Also have a problem with Outlook. When I open an email I get the same
message as with word, but with Outlook substituted for Word.

There was a KB article 928499 written for the Beta 2 TR which addressed this
problem, so I followed step for step those instructions. Did not solve the
problem.

I uninstalled all the Office 2003 multilingual variations...didn't help.

Did I mention I ran the diagnostics tests at least twice?

I am running out of ideas.

Try looking at the start-up files for the various apps

normal.dot
personal.xls
book.xlt
sheet.xlt
*.xlb
*.pst

All these are on a per user basis and may be corrupt (Not all may exist).
Try moving them from their current location and see if things improve?

Just an update. I am posting on the Office 2007 setup forum with the same
message because the problem existed with more Office 2007 applications.

I have gotten all Office 2007 programs to work by logging in as another
user. I am now in the process of comparing registry hive files for
respective user ids to see if I can correct the original problem with the
one
user id.
