To whom it may concern,
I've been experiencing a major Excel problem at work. Our IT department is
clueless as to what seems to be the cause and I was hoping this community
could shed some light on it.
The document in question is an Excel file containing Quarterly Operating
Report data. The document consists of about 10 worksheets, each with rows of
data. The worksheets have formulas linked between eachother to calculate
values within cells. These formulas are fairly simple, consisting of
multiplications, divisions and straight cell references. The main summary
sheet consists of links(references) from major lines from each worksheet as
well as charts relating to the data. (Basically, the main summary sheet is
the "front page" and the rest of the worksheets are considered "behind the
scenes" data.) Overall, there are approximately 30-40 charts within the
document. The document itself has a size of about 10MB.
Here is my problem:
When I try to save the document, Excel freezes and asks me to restart, after
which my work can be "recovered" but the "recovered" data is full of
meaningless rows of data. Also, if somehow I'm able to save the document
(which actually happens sometimes) it later becomes corrupted and the only
solution then is to recover a previous version of the document.
Moreover, the document is saved deep in the directory, abotu 8 folders deep.
Can that cause the issue?
The file has been managed for a few years now and contains lots of data.
When we migrated to Office 2007, our IT department manually transfered and
converted all data to the new format. However, I'm still unable to save the
document as an office 2007 copy. When I do that, I get a message about some
macros not working, even though there are no macros present in the document;
it only leaves me with an option to save as a 2003 version.
Any idea wha tthe problem might be? Am I doing something wrong here? Thank
