Hi,
To my surprize, the new version of Excel is VERY slow compared to 2003,
particularly when it handles worksheets with A LOT of data and charts.
I saw that Excel 2003 uses ~80 MB memory to open a certain file, while 2007
uses ~300 MB(!) to open the exactly same file. However, the slowness is not
caused by the lack of memory (I have 1 GB memory, and when I open this file,
I still have 80-250 MB free physical memory left), but extreme CPU usage
(90-98%) by Excel 2007 looks like the real reason for the slow speed. I
tried disabling multithreading (since I have a P4 2.53 [no
hyper-threading]), but that did not help at all. The older 2003 version
opens the same file on my Tablet PC, which has a Pentium-M 1.2 that is
slower than my desktop CPU, without any problems, and shows the charts after
a very brief 'blinking' of the chart (takes about about a second or so).
Yet, in Excel 2007, you can see the lines in the same chart being drawn
slowly one by one!
So, why would the new version act like this? Isn't it supposed to be "faster
and better" than the older version? How about using the available computer
resources efficiently?
Has anyone faced such a problem? If so, could you find a solution or
workaround?
Thanks.
