Excel 2007 Freezing

I have Excel 2007 and am having a problem when working with multiple excel
files at the same time. Either when opening an additional Excel file or when
the file autosaves excel will freeze for a period of time (approx 5+/- min)
and then become available again. Does anyone have any idea what could be
causing this? The files are located on a server but the server seems to be
working fine with other file types.
