Excel 2007 PC damages Mac Excel 2008 Files

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) Processor: Intel When I open a Mac Excel 2008 file on Excel 2007 and I can work with the file, however when the file is returned to the Mac, it no longer works correctly, leading to a crash as soon as I try to save or eventually it might change the file to look like a bunch of letters and characters.
