Excel 2008 and Apple Mail (Snow Leopardversion) - Crash when closing file

M

Version: 2008
Processor: Intel

When I open an Excel workbook inside of Apple Mail (by clicking on the link for the file attachment inside of Apple Mail), I am unable to close the workbook without Excel crashing. Then, no matter what I do, when I relaunch Excel, the file that I was trying to close when the crash occurred reopens and when I attempt to close such, Excel crashes again.

I have unstalled and reinstalled Office but that did not fix the problem. It does not seem to be related to a specific file - any Excel file opened from inside of Apple Mail seems to cause this to occur. I am not sure if this is an Excel issue or Apple Mail issue or a user account problem. I have repaired permissions and the uninstall of Office was complete including plists etc. (help from Microsoft support). Below is the crash report from Excel. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Update:

1. Created a new user account, downloaded mail and opened an Excel attachment - excel crashed when I tried to close the file.

2. On the original user account, after opening an excel workbook inside of Apple Mail and trying to close - Excel crashed. Reopened excel and it re-opened the attachment that I had tried to close - tried to close again and it crashed. Went to Apple Mail and deleted the email with the excel workbook I had previously opened - relaunched Excel and it launched and did not attempt to open the file that had caused it to crash.

It seems like a temporary solution is to drag the excel attachment to the desktop before trying to open such.

I am having the same problem with Excel. Three times this morning I have
tried to create a simple spreadsheet. Each time I enter 3 to 4 rows by 2
columns of data into the spreadsheet, the entire computer crashes.

Processor: 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
Memory: 3 GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT

I am using Microsoft Office 2004 for the Mac. However, I can no longer use
it. It crashes consistently and reboots my computer. There are no "Send to
Apple" screens that come up after so I am guessing this problem is likely not
getting reported through Apple.

Hi, I've tried for a while, but I still could not reproduce this crash on my machine. I speculate this could relate to specific format and/or the content of the spreadsheet. It would be great if you could send me a copy of the spreadsheet ([email protected]).

Thanks,

I am having the same problem, but excel won't even open. When opening Excel,
I am prompted that there was an error. The message is the same as markh31.
