Excel 2008 custom styles-- Why can't I save them?

Since I won't ever use the default "currency" style (eg: $ 4.00) but use the regular "$4.00" format a lot, I thought I could just redefine the built-in "currency" style to the format I want, then save that as part of my "Sheet" file that Excel opens on startup. I'm able to do that but once done it never appears to stick, and I can't see the change next time I open Excel (the old format applies when I choose the style). I figured that maybe "currency" was a reserved, built-in style that can't be amended, so I created a new style called "dollar" with the format I want and saved Sheet again. But it never appears in the drop-down style menu I added to my toolbar. How can I create a custom style that is always available to me in Excel? The default file that opens when I launch Excel has all the other custom changes I made to the toolbar, but maybe I'm doing something wrong when I re-save the Sheet file this time around?

And a related question: I see that the styles drop-down menu has both "currency" and "currency(0)", and also both "comma" and "comma(0)". Why 2 of each? (and they're not quite the same, either). Is this related to Q.1?

Thanks a lot for any assistance.

Second Q first: The styles with [0] at the end indicate rounds to whole
dollars (no decimal accuracy) whereas the style of the same name without the
[0] rounds to 2 decimal places.

As for Q1: Styles are *workbook* specific, not *sheet* specific. If you want
the Style to be available in all new workbooks you'll have to create a
Workbook template that includes the Style. See Excel Help for info on how to
do so if you aren't familiar with it.

Glad it worked out & thanks for taking the time to touch back!
