Ummmm I have a project due for STAT class on thursday!!!! I need that
tool pac in order to complete a regression, etc. What am I suppose to
do??? I already spent 1500+ updating to MAC and the only reason I
switched from PC to MAC is because Micro Office was available on my
MAC... I am not ABOUT to spend MORE money to get ANOTHER version of
something I already have.... ummm college student = no extra
money!?!?!? SO what am I suppose to do... I saw something about
downloading some converter and Excel update for 2004 without much
instruction available :( ... but I tried this to no avail I am
assuming because I do not have Micro Office 2004 package on here...
I'm seeing alot of people having the same issue... WHY is there not an
update avail to download this tool pack???? HELP ME PLEASE ASAP!!!!!!!

There's no update because the wizards in the Analysis Toolpak Add-in
require VBA, which is not, and will not be, part of XL08 (note that the
ATP *functions* ARE included in XL08).

You can certainly carry out regression without the ATP. LINEST() and
LOGEST() will return the statistics you need to perform regressions.

You can download several workbooks that provide equivalent or better
techniques here:

http://www.coventry.ac.uk/ec/~nhunt/oatbran/

The lack of VBA in Office 2008 has been known for a couple of years now,
but you may be able to convince your retailer that they should let you
return Office08, and get Office 2004 instead.

Also, while it's again no help immediately, the next version of Mac
Office *will* include VBA, so there's no reason the ATP wizards can't be
restored as well.

If you have time, you might download trail version of StatPlus for Mac
which does regression and more, and it is run together with Excel,
"almost" like an add-in. http://www.analystsoft.com/en/products/statplusmac/

I am rather appalled at this. I am a windows user who has just bought a mac. Damn good job I have an old version of windows and office xp which I am running through parallels.

I think it's awful that mac are supporting such an inferior product. I wanted to use the Histogram function, but I can't in office for mac '08 (it's in the analysis tool-pack add-in).

I almost don't see the point in having a mac as I find myself running windows most of the time at the moment.

Feel better now?

If all you're doing is histograms (which in both XL04 and WinXL is a
wizard, not a function, the template found here

http://www.coventry.ac.uk/ec/~nhunt/oatbran/

is an convenient way to implement them.

And it's also rather trivial to do histograms from scratch, of course.
