Excel 2008 Needs Macro Run-Time Engine!

I didn¹t think I was getting that many spreadsheets with macros, but I find
myself going into Parallels Desktops and launching Excel 2007 more often.
Why couldn¹t Office 2008 include a run-time version of VBA for existing
macros? Can we petition the MacBU to include at least this in a point
release for the Macs in cross-platform environments?

I couldn¹t include a run time version for the same reasons that VBA was
excluded. You can always post your feedback in the help menu. Microsoft does
indeed read these.

And what was the reason VBA was excluded? It¹s been so long since Microsoft
announced it, I¹ve forgotten (and it didn¹t seem consequential then).

Hi Scott,

The reason VBA was not shipped with Office 2008 is that during the late part
of the development cycle of Office 2008 Apple changed the processor from PPC
to Intel.

The VBA compiler was written specifically for the PowerPC (PPC), and that
means that there was suddenly no VBA available.

Microsoft has heard Mac users who want VBA returned and they have been
following the threads in this forum even if they are not actively posting
about all of the topics in the forum.

Although MacBU has been silent about the topic, Microsoft employees have
been stating that VBA will continue to be supported, so at least there¹s a
slight chance for us Mac users:

The MVPs have been urging people to use Help > Send Feedback to give MacBU
specific scenarios about how the lack of VBA affects their computing.

I hesitate to draw any conclusions about why Microsoft has remained silent
about VBA and Mac office. Until there¹s a solid ³yes² or ³no² from MacBU I
think well written feedback describing specific scenarios would be helpful
for them to read.
