Excel 2008 shows pound sign (Zoom level Bug)

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Excel files created in 2004 Excel and opened in 2008 Excel show strange pound symbols in the text fields, whether the field is large enough to fit the text or not. Pound signs are inconsistent as well: "## ##### # ###". Looks as though this only occurs at zoom levels that are not 100% (e.g. 125%, 150%, etc). Super annoying...

Any solutions to this bug yet?

Well, Excel only displays the # where column width is insufficient to
display *formatted values*. It has nothing to do with text at all. I've
never seen anything of the sort & there have been no other reports, so it
doesn't sound like a "bug" in the program.

Can you provide a more detailed explanation of the circumstances? Are you
saying that the text sometimes displays properly & sometimes doesn't in the
*same* files? What are your exact version upgrade levels of Office & OS X?
