Excel 2008

Excel 2008 has been giving me fits. For starters it will not open any of my old Excel 2004 files with VBM function. I need to get back to 2004. In order to have the Visual Basic Macro function I dumped excel in 2008 and loaded excel from Office 2004. This was done according to the advice given in the Mactopia excel forum. My version of Office 2004 is an upgrade over Office 98, now long gone. Since I'm loading all new applications on my new imac there is no previous version of Office on the machine. Excel from Office 2004, an upgrade, needs to see a previous version before it will run. I need the macro function to update my spreadsheets. I would like to go back to using Office 2004 but can't get there. There must be a flag or something that could be loaded in the applications file so that the 2004 upgrade could see some previous Office software. Any suggestions?

So, you installed Excel 204 form an Office 2004 Upgrade CD, correct? And now
it won't run because it wants to see the original CD (in your case Office
98), also correct? If this is the case you'll have to speak with Microsoft
and explain the situation, or find a copy of the full Office 2004 to install
from. You can probably find one on Ebay.

Thanks for your advice. I'm assuming, based on your answer, that Office 2004 will run just fine on OS 10.5 and Intel processor. Is this correct? I found Office 2004 on Amazon.
