Excel 5.0 - Error Segment Laod Failure in Excel.exe at 000C:12CB

Anyone,

I do not use Excel very often which is part of the
problem:

Currently running MS XP and attempting to run Excel
version 5.0. On start up I am gettin this error message:

Error Segment Laod Failure in Excel.exe at 000C:12CB

I am not having a problem with my other pre-historic MS
Office Apllications ver 4.3 : Word 6.0 and Access?

I realize it's time to upgrade, but does anyone know of a
quick fix or available patch?
