Excel 5.0 on OS 9.2.2 won't work

I have an iMac 266Mhz with OS 9.2.2. Am using Microsoft Word 6.0.1 and
Microsoft Excel 5.0.

Had OS 8.6 installed and both programs worked fine. Upgraded to OS
9.2.2 and now Word still works but Excel doesn't. Can open Excel and
get the Control strip up top of form but when try to click on any
Command ("File" etc) the whole computer freezes. Used to get a
message with something about DDL or DLL, l think, but now get nothing.

Want Excel working as Clarisworks spreadsheet just doesn't hack it.

ANY help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, Excel 5 won't run on OS 9. You'll have to upgrade to a more
recent version of Excel (98 or 2001) or... downgrade to Excel 4!
