Excel 97 and Office XP

I have just purchased and installed one of the most
recent versions of Microsoft office when buying my
computer and it did not include excel. But I also have
a97 version of office with excel. Is there any way I can
install just the 97 Excel part of the program without
harming my new office and windows XP systems on my dell
computer. I would appreciate any guidance.

The usual recommendation is that you install the oldest Office component
first, then the newer ones. I've done it both ways (but with Word, not
Excel). After installing an older Office component, when I run newer Office
components, I sometimes get prompted for the installation CD for the newer
component. It then reinstalls whatever the older component installation
messed up, and things generally work fine after that.
