Excel 97 and XP Pro

I have a client PC with Office 97 installed on XP pro and today for what
ever reason, it decided to cause problems. This user took an excel document
home to work on. He has a new version of excel installed on his PC at home.
When he brought it back, he sent it to another user that has office 97
installed on XP pro, this user modified it and sent it back. He is now
unable to open the document. It displays an error "cannot find the specified
fie". In fact all spreadsheets in his email display the same error. Can
anyone advise what is causing this problem?

Ask him to save to his HD first, then open it through excel with File>Open
If that works but if he opens the file directly by clicking it won't, then
try either

Close Excel and
Start>Run
type excel /regserver

you might need the whole path

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office8\Excel.exe" /regserver

or

Tools / Options / General / Ignore other applications (uncheck it)
