Excel Adds a Zero to All Numeric Entries

Every time I enter a number into a sheet (all my sheets) it adds a zero at
the end automatically, e.g. 12 becomes 120. Now I can stop this by typing
12.0. I've checked the cell format and even tried changing the format of
the number but this doesn’t help. Have you ever seen this? Is there some
weird setting somewhere that's causing this to happen?
