Excel and Word 2003 "Locked"

Due to a bunch of "mysterious" and un-intended
keystrokes, I cannnot use EXCEL or WORD.

Bot programs will boot up and open.....but I cannot type
data in either program (nothing in cells, etc...) and
only about 20% of the menu items are in BOLD
now....effectively, the programs are locked.

What happened?

How do I reverse this?

HELP !
